Biography

Michael "Mike" Downing is a Republican from Salem.

Mike served in the State Senate from 2006-2010, representing District 22 which encompasses Atkinson, Plaistow, Pelham and Salem. As the State Senator from Salem, Mike was a member of the Capital Budget Committee, the Executive Departments and Administrative Committee, the Ways and Means Committee and the Health and Human Services Committee.

Previously, Mike served three terms in the New Hampshire House from 1996 - 2002 where he was a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Resources, Recreation and Development Committee.

Mike is a veteran of the Army 82nd Airborne Division; served as a member of the New Hampshire State Police and the Town of Salem Police Department; a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Salem Haven nursing home and Silverthorne Adult Day Care.

Mike is also involved with numerous community groups including the Salem AMVETS Post #2, Pelham Fish & Game Club, the Rockingham County Law Enforcement Association, Knights of Columbus, and served a Little League coach in Salem.

Mike and his wife, Heidi, run a small laundry business and live in Salem with their 5 children.
